10 Subtle Movie Jokes That Probably Went Straight Over Your Head

10. Hindi Radio - Shaun Of The Dead

Universal

As with most film nerds-turned-filmmakers, Edgar Wright used his comedy masterpiece Shaun of the Dead to cram in just about as many homages, references, and in-jokes as humanly possible, including this one that probably went straight over your head - unless, of course, you happen to speak Hindi.

Wright knows, of course, that a good film is defined by how dense you make it (according to me, anyway), and this movie is really dense. Remember the scene where Shaun - in a second of two near-identical unbroken takes - walks to the shop in a zombiefied state? Not because he's been bitten or anything, but because it's early in the morning in England, and that's how everybody walks around here.

Well, Shaun, being half-asleep and all, fails to notice that the zombie apocalypse has started. If only he spoke Hindi, given that there's a radio playing in the background and the DJ can be heard saying: "The dead have come back to life. This is not a prank." How very subtle.
