A lot of people will tell you that Wall-E drops in quality the minute the little trash-bot takes flight and leaves Earth for the Axiom ship. Those people are half right, but only because the opening act is so delightful.

Obviously the Axiom set plot hinges on the revelation that AUTO - the autopilot robot - has been secretly instructed to keep the Axiom from ever returnin to Earth for the good of humanity. For some reason this makes him the villain, when he's just following orders.

But as a sign of his increased power, the portraits of the Axiom's captains on the bridge show AUTO moving closer to the camera on each one, foreshadowing him truly being in charge.
