10 Summer Horror Movies You Have To See

1. Piranha 3D

Kelly Brook Piranha
Dimension Films

Technically this takes place during Spring Break, but it doesn't really matter, because it feels just as much like a summer movie. Kind of a remake of the 1978 movie, Piranha 3D totally surpasses that one, and it's one of the greatest beach/water films of all time.

The setup is pretty basic, with a bunch of characters traveling to Lake Victoria for spring break. A lot of it is pretty exploitative, but for a while, it's hard to watch without wanting to jump in the water yourself. So much of the first act consists of characters (mainly girls in bikinis) hanging around, drinking beer, going on water slides, and anything else you'd associate with this time of year.

And then of course everything goes south, and the film gets absolutely freaking insane. For a movie like this, you go in expect something kind of like Jaws, where everyone's picked off by the piranhas one at a time.

But nope, it's not long before there's a sequence where the piranhas attack while everyone is swimming in a concentrated area. Literally dozens upon dozens of people are eaten alive in one scene and there is an insane amount of blood. It takes that good, positive energy that comes with being surrounded by friends in the water and throws a bunch of flesh eating, blood thirsty piranhas at it.

Have fun swimming!
