2. Love Interest Is Kidnapped
There's not much more to say about this one except that it's been utilized on so many occassions, it would be nice to see superhero flick writers using another means to get their characters into the action. It's important to remember that, once again, movies in general make use of a love interest (or loved one) getting captured and needing to be rescued. But when the same helpless character exists purely to be rescued over and over again, it begins to get a bit... boring. But this trope can be surpassed: Christopher Nolan shocked audiences when he allowed Bruce Wayne to fail in his attempts to rescue his love interest in
The Dark Knight, and in the recent
Spider-Man flick, Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy actually got given something else to do aside from screaming and being captured by a giant lizard man. It's a step in the right direction, at least, and proof that it can be avoided.
