10 Superhero Movie Performances That Were Totally Oscar-Worthy
4. Tom Hiddlestone - The Avengers
It’s hard to remember now that we’re in the Endgame, but before Avengers first came out, there were some doubts as to whether or not the MCU could handle a team up movie. Thor and The Incredible Hulk were tepidly received, Captain America was a period piece and Iron Man 2 was nowhere near as good as the first one.
Enter Tom Hiddleston. Granted, Hiddlestone had already debuted as one of the only good things in the first Thor movie (a feat he’d repeat with The Dark World), and the rest of the cast and script was excellent, but Hiddlestone was the one who truly rose to the occasion.
The Avengers was when the MCU became the MCU, not just a string of movies from the same comics. Hiddlestone’s Loki was the common enemy that helped Joss Whedon layer it all together.
But we all know Loki is one of the MCU’s finest villains/antiheroes. That doesn’t necessarily mean the Academy care; neither Josh Brolin nor Chris Evans make the cut here.
However, Hiddlestone’s steady deliver, range of reactions and penchant for monologues? That’s what Oscars are made of.
