10 Superheroes The World Needs Right Now

4. Timecop

Stop me if this sounds like a conspiracy theory: in the not too distant future, a corrupt Senator sends a henchman back in time in order to illegally profit from the 1929 stock market crash. Said Senator then uses the money to propel himself into the White House.

Throw in Max Walker (Jean Claude Van Damme), an agent for the Time Enforcement Commission (and the only person who can save the world) and you’ve got the plot of Timecop, which though made in 1994 now seems like a warning from the future. Or our present. Or something.

The Senator is played by the late Ron Silver, whose real-life support for the Republicans caused him to be dubbed “Ron Ron The Neo-Con” by his liberal colleagues, and he’s perfectly nasty in the role, trying to kill Walker’s girl and even insulting his past self. You’ve never wanted to see JCVD more badly in your life.
