Had the role gone to an actor who hadnt previously brought in $2.6bn. in one franchise alone, it might have been played down to make more room for the titular character. Disney is no fool, and they knew audiences would love another chance to see Depp playing a quirky character with Capn Sparrow absent from the screen for three years by this point, and audiences reacted just as expected, with Mia Wasikowskas performance as Alice somewhat forgotten in stark contrast.
