10 Surprisingly Dark Moments In Laika's Missing Link

4. The Heroes Mug And Forcibly Strip A Nun

When Adelina catches up to Frost and Link at the train station, she finds them both disguised. Link's costume is fairly straightforward, since most characters in this film already find it strange to see a sasquatch in human clothing. Frost's costume, however, is another story. To keep the bounty hunters from recognizing him, Frost has decided to dress as a nun.

Adelina understandably has trouble understanding where Frost might have acquired such a costume. Link answers with disturbingly nonchalant honesty: "There was a nun, we mugged her."

Let's set aside for a moment the fact that the protagonists of a children's film mugged a nun. This is bad enough in and of itself. The problem is that most nuns do not presumably carry extra habits in their purses. Frost has to be wearing the same habit as the nun they mugged, meaning that he must have forcibly stripped it from her person.

Probably the worst part about the whole thing is that Frost mugged and stripped a nun for essentially no reason. With his pointed beard and square jaw, his nun costume doesn't fool anyone. Adelina recognizes him instantly, and it isn't long before Stenk is right on his tail. As if it wasn't bad enough to have the heroes strip a nun of her clothing, this film has them do it for the sake of a simple joke that achieves nothing in terms of actual plot development.
