10 Surprisingly Good Scenes In Otherwise Terrible Movies

Sigourney Weaver may have been done with the Alien franchise, but the Alien franchise wasn't done with her. Even after jumping into a fiery pit to ensure they had nowhere to take her, the studio forced screenwriter Joss Whedon to bring back Ripley for one more round. It was Whedon's enthusiasm and his general ideas that impressed Weaver enough to reprise the role.

"They did everything wrong that they could possibly do," Whedon would say of the project.

Whedon, however, does have a knack for bringing humanity to the absurd, and there is one scene that stands out as not only Whedon-esque, but also out of a better, more interesting movie entirely. At one point, Ripley and her team of space pirates stumble upon a room full of failed Ripley clones, she is forced to euthanize them with fire. In a better movie, it'd be heartbreaking.

In that blaze of fire, we're reminded that the half-human/half-alien Ripley still has a soul. It's a heady scene in a film more interested in Brad Douriff hamming it up and Weaver making three-point baskets.
