10 Surprisingly Realistic Movie Scenes Nobody Saw Coming

9. Trying To Roll Underneath A Truck (And Getting Run Over) - Edge Of Tomorrow

Edge of Tomorrow may be a fundamentally ridiculous sci-fi time loop movie, but it's at least smart enough to have a playful sense of humour about its own Groundhog Day-inspired sense of repetition.

Namely, Major William Cage (Tom Cruise) dies dozens of times throughout the film while figuring out a solution to defeat the alien Mimics, his death causing the time loop to reset each time.

As a result, some of the film's most memorable moments see Cage failing in spectacularly brutal and even hilarious fashion, such as when Cage attempts to flee J-Squad by rolling underneath a truck.

It's a pretty typical action hero move that Tom "hanging off the side of a plane" Cruise should be capable of in his sleep, right? Except in the real world it requires considerably greater timing, combined with a splash of luck, which Cage evidently doesn't have in this instance.

And so, as Cage spiritedly rolls underneath the truck, we hear him let out an agonising scream as he's helplessly crushed to death, before Sergeant Farell (Bill Paxton) asks his pulped remains, "What the hell were you thinking?"
