10 Syfy Original Horror Movies That Actually Aren't Awful

Eric Red’s 100 Feet is the story of a domestic abuse victim who cannot escape her violent policeman husband, even in death. After Marnie (Famke Janssen) kills her spouse in self-defense, the court places her under house arrest, trapping her at the scene of her crime. Maddening claustrophobia and vengeful cops make her life a living hell, but it gets a lot worse when she realizes that her husband isn’t quite done with her yet.

Some real stinkers aired on Syfy in 2009 and 100 Feet fell by the wayside as films like Ice Twisters, Knights of Bloodsteel and Malibu Shark Attack became the most talked about TV movies for their so-bad-they’re-good-ness. Horror website Dread Central admitted in their late review of the film that 100 Feet had slipped through their fingers, conceding that Red’s film was one of the best supernatural rides they had been on in a long time.

While it may seem like a simple haunted house tale on paper, 100 Feet works because it manages to dodge the tired clichés of the sub-genre by simply confining Marnie to the house in every sense. Countless similar films have had viewers screaming “just leave the damn house” at their screens, but we know this isn’t an option with her husband’s ex-colleagues patrolling the area.

It isn't the creepiest ghost story you'll ever sit down to watch, but 100 Feet hones in on our fear of isolation and exploits it just enough to keep us interested in what happens next.
