1. Constantine
Why It Was Terrible: Hey look, another R rated comic book film made to suffer (see the trend? Even the glorious V for Vendetta took a bunch of crap from critics). In the case of Constantine we have a dark film with considerably darker subject matter that's not going to appeal to the masses, but somehow still did not manage to be dark enough for fans of the actual comic. Definitely what you could call a conundrum. Those that liked Hellblazer simply had too hard of a time seeing Keanu Reeves as the criminally mind, but good hearted blond Brit John Constantine. Can't say I really blame them. For the rest of us we saw the trailer for Constantine and must have thought exactly what the casting director did when pitched the idea. "Oh, this must be the Matrix with demons."
Why You Should Revisit: Terrible theology aside, Constantine makes a noble effort of tackling the darker side of the Occult in its script. There are not too many mainstream movies that usually delve as deep as it did into the matter. It presents us with a chilling world filled with demons, exorcisms, and scenes depicting the fires of hell. There's also a scary performance by Peter Stormare as the devil, who Constantine summons by slitting his wrists. Not for the faint hearted to be sure. Besides if enough people show interest perhaps we'll get the reboot of Hellblazer that the series deserved.
