10 Terrible Films That Tricked Us With Awesome Posters

9. Volcano (1997)

The movie poster for Volcano could only be as strongly red as it is out of flushed embarrassment over how comically preposterous the film is. Admittedly, the poster, while visually great, flunks with the movie itself via some of its laughable taglines: €œthe coast is toast€ and €œit€™s hotter than hell.€ Sadly, the movie is far from €œhot€; when labeling it a disaster flick, disaster is right. This movie is a disaster in matters of discontinuity, absurd impracticalities, horrible characters, and a whole eruption of other issues. The poster creates a serious-looking scene of intense chaos by using a mid-eruption depiction of the volcano that serves justice to the action and thrill of the genre. Of course, to appreciate the poster, one must still look past the fact that there is somehow a hugely unlikely volcano pictured smack-dab in downtown Los Angeles. Despite the artistic poster contrast of red hues against black, the last thing this film will ever be called beyond its self proclaimed €œhotter than hell€ is €œred-hot.€

Sydney is from Roswell, Georgia, where she takes pride in Georgia's growing film industry. She is a sophomore at Northwestern University with a minor in Film & Media Studies and a love for writing. Her life has unsuccessfully aspired to model a Keira Knightley period piece. Sydney is most likely to be found in an emptied theater viewing the credits and sipping her staple drink: all the theater’s sodas mixed together.
