10 Terrible Mars Movies That Don't Bode Well For The Martian
2. Doom
Rotten Tomatoes score: 19%
Box Office: $56 million ($60 million budget)
Long before he was the go-to guy for saving any floundering franchise, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson picked up a Razzie nod for his performance in this low rent adaptation of the beloved '90s shoot-em-up.
Doom the game features a space marine on Mars when a portal to Hell opens, flooding seemingly every corridor with demons. Doom the movie features an outbreak of a genetic mutation at a Martian research facility, after which the marines are set in as a rescue force.
With a plot that, therefore, has more in common with The Last Days On Mars than the game, the only thing really linking Doom with its source material is the Martian setting and a clunky first person shooter sequence part way through. Even by the low standards of video game movies, then, this a failure.
