10 Terrible Mistakes That Almost Ruined Superman For Everyone

8. Becoming An Anchorman

Being a newspaper reporter is as vital to Clark Kent's character as being faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, and able to leap buildings in a single bound is to Superman. It provides a believable cover to his secret activities as the world's greatest superhero, as nobody questions why he shows up at scenes of supercrime and violence through Metropolis. It also, when the writer remembers it, allows him to investigate corruption and evil in his day job as well as the pants-over-tights work. Plus it's another connection to the nostalgic past that Superman embodies - a character who upholds good old fashioned values would, obviously, have a good old fashioned employer.

Which is why it was almost ruinous for the character to have left the Daily Planet for a spell, swapping the typewriter and bylines out for a starring role as news anchor for WGBS News. On television. After being taken over by the Galaxy Broadcasting System, the Planet switches from print to broadcast news, with star reporter Kent put front and centre. Which means the mostly anonymous journalist appears on televisions throughout the city every evening, with thousands getting a chance to notice the similarities between this dude and Superman. Plus it makes it a little harder to fly off and SAVE LIVES when you're meant to be on the telly. Glad this didn't last, as WGBS turned out to be a front for an international crime syndicate. You'd never get that kind of conflict of interest or corruption in print journalism!
