10 Terrible Movies Everybody Loves

1. The Room

Idle Hands
TPW Films

When it comes to films that are “so bad they’re good” none have ever gotten to the peak that The Room did in terms of its mainstream appeal - whether that was derision or twisted admiration. First made a cult hit in the Los Angeles area, the internet made Tommy Wiseau a star... but not in the way that he wanted to be.

The Room continues to be an enigma even twenty years later as no one knows where Wiseau came from or how he was able to afford to make this movie equivalent to the feeling of second hand embarrassment. The mystery man directs and stars as the main character whose emotional state is to The Room’s story structure: a total fustercluck.

Centering on the relationship of Tommy and Lisa as it torn apart due to the latter's infidelity, it also randomly veers off into scenes of characters playing football, a subplot about drug money and Lisa’s Mother blurting out that she has breast cancer... all of which amount to nothing.

A tour-de-force of cringe acting and head-scratching decisions, The Room deserves to be remembered. Other bad movies may have had documentaries about how they came to be but The Room is the only one where its behind the scenes book, the Disaster Artist, became a film in its own right.
