10 Terrible Movies That Made Great Actors Look Like Failed Amateurs

2. Will Smith - Wild Wild West

Will Smith's radiant presence is usually enough to save a screenplay, but even the Fresh Prince looks utterly lost amid the ridiculousness of Wild Wild West. Opening in 1999 to a critical panning, Barry Sonnenfeld's big-budget effort is absolutely insane from start to finish - and by no means in a good way. This souped-up Western is an eye-blinkingly unfunny mess, with the movie's idea of comedy revolving around hero James West (Smith) poking fun at the antagonist's paraplegia, and his sidekick (Kevin Kline) infrequently engaging in screaming panic and exasperation. The only thing on the agenda for the production team here is special effects, and none of this pricey razzle-dazzle saves Smith from sinking deep into the Old West sand. Unable to achieve any kind of comedic or thrilling effect (despite featuring a giant mechanical spider thumping around in the middle of the desert), Wild Wild West is arugably Smith's greatest disaster. Although those who grumbled their way out of theater showings of After Earth may beg to differ.
