10 Terrible Movies That Still Smashed The Box Office
7. The Jurassic World Franchise
Most legacy sequels come and go with more chance of detracting from a franchise's legacy rather than adding to it, with Top Gun: Maverick being the only real standout of a truly fantastic return to a popular cinematic property. Jurassic World falls far closer to the former than to the latter.
Released in 2015, 14 years after Jurassic Park 3, Jurassic World was a relatively bland entry into the franchise. However, the fact that it was a movie returning to Isla Nublar saw it pull in an incredible $1.6 billion.
Three years later, when Fallen Kingdom was released, the quality of that film dipped lower arguably even than Jurassic Park 3, something that was no easy feat. Yet, though the poor sequel grossed less than its predecessor, it still brought in $1.3 billion.
Even after two poor films, the promise of seeing dinosaurs roaming free across the world, something that wasn't even a central part of the story, saw Dominion just sneak over the billion-dollar mark. None of these pictures are good, particularly when compared to the original, and though the money dropped with each new entry, all three were incredibly successful at the box office.
