5. Robocop 3
Robocop was a violent, gory, bleak view of a dystopian future Detroit, where violence threatened to overwhelm the city. It had a cop resurrected in a suit or armour, taking out terrorists and going head to head with a robot that acted like a dog and took out board members while the meeting was still in session. And it was all rather cool. Very violent, but cool. And it had a henchmen covered in toxic waste being smashed into jelly in a confrontation with a car. When I first saw this film it was the best thing I had ever seen. The sequel wasnt anywhere near as good, but that grim war against crime was mixed with a war against drugs and it served its purpose as a slightly disappointing but solid follow up.
Robocop 3 felt like it was a film for kids. Robocop immediately looked less cool when he could fly (he did) and instead of going up against gangs or terrorists, he was up against developers who wanted to evict some poor families from some land. Oh dearbetter gun the baddies down with your brand of justice Robocop. Oh wait, no. In the US, this was a PG 13 (15 over here in the UK). And it didnt have Peter Weller. Frankly, what was the point of this film?
