6. The Bourne Movies (2002-2012)
The Bourne franchise is arguably the greatest action series of modern times, given the fact that it's influenced pretty much every other action movie to have been released after 2002, what with shaky-cam action scenes and, uh, shaky-cam action scenes. The Bourne movies are also renowned for their intricate plotting - plotting which you'd likely attribute to that of the original novels, as written by Robert Ludlum. But anybody who actually dared to pick up the Bourne books after having seeing Matt Damon in action probably spent most of their time frowning at the screen. That's because the movies have basically nothing to do with the novels at all, save for the fact that they're about a guy and that same guy gets amnesia. Gone is the main villain, though, the era, and the backstory which explains where Bourne got all his skills. That's not all: Bourne gets a brand new nationality in the movie, and the story between him and his love interest is so different that it should probably be considered a different relationship entirely. Luckily the movies were all great, but as adaptations of Ludlum's books, they really suck.
