10 Terrifying Children's Movies You Used To Watch on Repeat

9. Raiders of the Lost Ark

Okay so this one isn€™t exactly obscure either: I promise I€™m getting to them. But first I€™d be remiss if I didn€™t include at least one of the Indiana Jones movies. Some people might not see this as a kid€™s film; considering the movie€™s high death toll I can€™t really blame them. However, I watched this movie countless times over the course of my childhood as far back as I can remember, so age restrictions be damned: this makes the list (plus it€™s rated PG anyway). It€™s not hard to see why I played this movie on a loop, or why it gave me terrible nightmares. It€™s just a really fantastic movie all around. From Harrison Ford€™s cocky-yet-cool archeology professor/treasure hunter to the dynamic action and spectacular score, Raiders manages to hit all the right beats to create an unbelievably fun film. What€™s more is that it has such an incredibly tense and terrifying climax in which the lead character doesn€™t even do anything; he€™s literally tied up the whole time. You could never get the greenlight to film a climax like this nowadays; you€™d get laughed out of the pitch meeting. It€™s just another of those things that makes Raiders, literally, face-meltingly awesome. Seeing this film again during its IMAX run last month really reminded me how scary this movie gets; honestly I€™m amazed I dared to watch it as many times as I did as a child. In the climax Nazi's flesh is literally melted off their skulls, and one of them explodes into gory little pieces: that€™s some seriously horrifying stuff. Even Spielberg wouldn€™t be able to get away with this in a kids film today. Heck, I doubt he could even get it into a PG-13 movie anymore.
