10 Terrifying Horror Films You’ve Probably Never Seen
7. Upgrade (2018)
What happens when you combine steampunk action with creeping undertones of the dangers of overreliance of technology? Upgrade happens. Incredibly underrated actor and potential Tom Hardy twin Logan Marshall-Green stars as a technophobic paraplegic, given the chance to walk and take revenge on his cripplers by advanced technology: awesome!
Whilst many would call this a sci-fi revenge flick, the idea of being trapped with your biggest fear, whilst that fear slowly overwhelms you and controls you is enough for it to make its way onto this list. Marshall-Green makes this film worthwhile with a largely unwilling and helpless shell of a man being manipulated by everyone around him, whilst a worried but thrilled audience are forced to watch just as helplessly.
Add in a shady gang and a LOT of violent gore and this film presents itself as a hybrid love letter to the action, sci-fi, horror and steampunk genres, leaving you with 100 minutes of heart-pounding, thrilling film which will leave its fans re-evaluating whether they really need all of those Apple products by the end.
