10 Terrifying Movie Apocalypses We Should All Embrace

9. Virus - Twelve Monkeys

Twelve Monkeys - Bruce Willis And Brad Pitt This is almost definitely going to happen. Human beings are basically walking, talking receptacles of filth, mucus and infection just desperate to go to the toilet and not wash their hands, stuff body parts into each other without protection or refuse to get inoculations because they once read that jabs are part of a world-wide governmental manipulation of humanity. Sigh. One of these days we€™re going to become fully immune to those prettily-coloured antibiotics that we all gobble when we convince ourselves that our head cold is actually a mutant, X-Men-esque version of polio. And when that happens we€™ll end up more extinct than Bruce Willis€™s hair. A virus is the harbinger of doom in Terry Gilliam€™s resoundingly brilliant Twelve Monkeys, except this one is a man-made human-devourer created in a lab and set loose on civilisation by him out of St Elsewhere. The aforementioned Willis does his usual bog-standard turn as a desperately dull Neanderthal while Brad Pitt steals the entire film as a wild-eyed fruitcake, and giving us all an insight into what human beings will act like should we survive the fallout of a population-decimating virus. And it€™s definitely something we should all get on board with.

Chris James Peet says hello. His interests include hoping for the best and sitting in chairs. He much prefers moaning to counting his blessings and suffers fools gladly. He also likes to look out of the window and check what's in the fridge but he hates standing up, dripping taps and reality.
