10 Terrifying Movie Characters You Never Actually Got To See
10. The Blair Witch - The Blair Witch Project
What, The Blair Witch Project didnt scare you at all and you actually found it boring rather than terrifying? Well then congratulations to you, you brave little pixie, but when The Blair Witch Project was first released back in 1999 it was as skull-crushingly scary as it was innovative. Thanks to never-seen-before viral marketing over the still very new internet, and use of found-footage techniques which hadnt yet been destroyed by the hundreds of Paranormal Activity films there are now, The Blair Witch Project delivered an authentic and horrifying experience that many viewers felt had actually happened. Aside from this very clever campaign, The Blair Witch Projects key strength is also what has now become its key weakness. Literally nothing happens. The happy campers go out into the woods looking for the mythical Blair Witch, and for the bulk of the film the only spooky happenings are that occasionally their tent rustles and piles are stones are left around them whilst they sleep, with no explanation as to what these mean or where they come from. Its this lack of information, and lack of visible antagonist, that made the film so sweat-inducing as you try to piece together these events like clues, but eventually come up with nothing. Even the final shot, which is often touted as one of the most terrifying scenes ever, gives away absolutely nothing. All you see is one of the other campers in the corner of the room, matching the mythology of a previously discussed murderer who killed children in pairs in the basement. The camera then drops and the film ends without explanation, with the Blair Witch neither seen, nor confirmed.
