4. Regular Tea Breaks Really Confused The American Cast
Whereas the entire cast of Aliens hailed from America, most of them were already residing in the United Kingdom before the movie went into production. Given that the film was shot primarily at Pinewood Studios and the disuses Acton Lane power station in London, the crew were almost entirely British and insisted on stopping for tea breaks every day. To say that this confounded - and frustrated - their American colleagues would be an understatement, and tempers frequently frayed when everything came to a halt to allow the tea lady to trundle her trolley onto the set. Lunch time pub visits were also considered more than a little strange, as the English crew downed their tools and popped over to the local for a quick pint - or two - before heading back to work. In an interview after the film had been released, Bill Paxton - who described the British work ethic as "really indentured" - likened it to having bars on set in Hollywood, confirming that the lunch time pint is a distinctly British tradition.
