10 Things You Didn't Know About Masters Of The Universe

2. A 25th Anniversary Special Edition Blu-Ray Release Was Debunked By Warner Bros.

In 2012, it was announced by Warner Bros that a 25th anniversary Blu-ray release of the film was going to be released. Fans across the globe were hugely excited by the prospect, and director Goddard had started preparing a whole host of extra features, both old and new, that he knew fans would be aching to see. With some old promotional footage, as well as a lot artwork and designs, Goddard set about making some new features. The feature documentary, €œToy Masters€, directed by filmmakers Corey Landis and Roger Lay Jnr, which encompassed the entire history of the He-Man franchise, was set to be included, as was a brand-new interview with Goddard conducted by his best friend, Bryan Singer. Sadly, when Goddard presented all of the features he had gathered to Warner Bros, they responded with a hearty €œno thanks€. The studio, who bought the film and distribution rights from Cannon when they went bust, didn€™t want to spend any unnecessary money on the release, instead opting for the same release that the DVD had in 2001, though they did give the film a transfer upgrade. Goddard had stated at Power-Con 2012 that he offered the material to Warner Bros for €œnext to nothing€ but alas it wasn€™t to be. He had said that a book about the film, as well as the Toy Masters documentary, would hopefully be released, but sadly nothing has come to fruition so far. It would be amazing to have a special collectors version of the film and Blu-ray, especially as companies such as Arrow Films, are such advocates of Cannon€™s old works. We live in hope.
