10 Things Everybody Gets Wrong About 2014 Movies

6. What We Do In The Shadows Wasn't Jumping On The Vampire Bandwagon

A comedy about vampires? Could there be anything more bandwagon jumping than that? Well, probably, given that What We Do In The Shadows wasn't actually conceived in any way as a reaction to Twilight and its sparkly ilk. The latest project from Jemaine Clement, one half of The Flight Of The Concords, What We Do In The Shadows certainly looked like a slightly-too-late attempt to make jokes as insightful as "Isn't Twilight crap?" and "Vampires aren't new", but not only is it actually really good, but publicity interviews reveal the original idea for the mockumentary dates back to before the current fad. In fact, the idea was so ahead of the curve that Clement wasn't even going to make it until the stock in bloodsuckers shot up at the tail-end of the last decade. So Twilight's the enabler, not the target.
