10 Things Everybody Gets Wrong About The Marvel Cinematic Universe
3. All The Movies Are The Same
A major criticism of the movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is that they're all the same. People say the formula of each movie is identical and that MacGuffins are the driving force of them all - this is absolute nonsense. Granted, the movies all end with the heroes winning the day, but why is that such a bad thing, and why are comic book movies so often victimised for that being the case? Doesn't that happen in almost all movies? You didn't hear people complaining when '80s action heroes won their battles. Moreover, the way in which the stories evolve and the victories are won are so very different. Some of the movies see characters starting with power, some don't. Certain heroes have to join forces with allies, while others work alone. Some heroes are up against individuals, others are up against multiple foes. A number of the films are quite light in tone, while others are dark. Certain movies in the franchise even fall in to different sub-genres - Captain America: The Winter Soldier was like a thriller and Guardians Of The Galaxy was like a sci-fi space epic, for example. And, really, if you think that Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians Of The Galaxy were the same, or that various other pairs of movies in the franchise were carbon copies of each other, you're simply not watching the movies properly. As for MacGuffins appearing in every movie - poppycock! There have been ten films in this franchise to date and only four of them (Captain America: The First Avenger, The Avengers, Thor: The Dark World and Guardians Of The Galaxy) have focused on a plot device object as the motivator for the story (and even then it was in a manner distinct to the others).
