10 Things Everyone Always Gets Wrong About Star Wars

5. Hayden Christensen Was The Wrong Choice For Anakin Skywalker

Casting can be a very subjective matter. What works for some might not work for others. However, there are those rare occasions when everyone collectively agrees. Unfortunately for Hayden Christensen, he found himself at the tail end of this, being universally loathed for his performance as Anakin. But, did he deserve that backlash? The title to this entry will, of course, reveal that no, he didn't.

The prequels were mocked relentlessly for their wooden acting, and Hayden Christensen seemed to be at the height of that revolution. Audiences everywhere criticised his whiny voice and teenager-like personality, claiming that he was not a good depiction of a young Darth Vader.

However, while it's true his acting was wooden, he's hardly alone in that boat. All the acting in the prequels came across as awkward and stiff, with even decorated performers like Natalie Portman and Samuel L. Jackson struggling to reach their regular standard.

When it came to playing an angry, confused and conflicted young man turning into a Sith Lord, he did the best he could with it. Plus, whenever he wasn't held back by the lacklustre dialogue and was allowed to act non-verbally, he was incredibly intimidating/convincing.

Was the performance great? No, it wasn't. But that doesn't mean he was the wrong choice.
