10 Things Hollywood Can Learn From The Lone Ranger Flop

6. Forcing Young, New Actors On Us Does Not Work

The Lone Ranger Though Armie Hammer hasn't starred in a whole lot, he proved in David Fincher's sublime The Social Network that he's a very talented young actor, one capable of many great things if he puts his mind to it, something not so much made clear in The Lone Ranger. While the film is marketed almost solely on Depp's appeal, with Hammer spending the movie underneath a mask, would it not have made sense to cast someone a little better known in the role? Instead, it seems like they just selected an interchangeable young actor who isn't too recognised they could pay a low salary to just to fill the gap, while affording Depp's considerably larger pay-day. This isn't to say that casting a better-known young actor in a more strongly-written role would have resulted in a more successful box office yield, but Hell, it surely couldn't have hurt, no? Instead, taking a talented young actor on the rise, dumping him in a crap role and expecting him to flourish is just a fail waiting to happen.
