10 Things That Would Make You Excited For DC’s Cinematic Universe

1. Immerse Us In The Universe

We need to feel attached to the characters, and DC need to make us feel engrossed in their product. One of the reasons that The Winter Soldier was such a great film was because it shook the actual foundations of the MCU - DC need to get us to care about their universe and to understand the key concepts and structures from a very early point, so that a massive revelation like that Hydra twist will shock us. Man Of Steel was hard to get emotionally attached to, so DC desperately need us to relate to their characters. Dawn of Justice will try to immerse us in this new universe by introducing characters and concepts - we will meet an Amazonian princess and learn about the new Batman, as well as developing Clark Kent and his colleagues, neglected in Man Of Steel. There is more to a superhero film than the titular character - there needs to be a supporting cast that we care about. Marvel€™s Thor films show this concept better than any other - Jane Foster and Darcy are hardly compelling characters - whereas Captain America: The First Avenger managed to get us emotionally attached to Peggy Carter and company from early on in the film. DC need to use the supporting cast to develop the character, not just to accompany the hero on his adventures. DC look like they are doing this - rumours suggest that Jimmy OIsen will be introduced in Dawn of Justice and that he may have been injured in Superman€™s duel with Zod. This would certainly get us to sympathise with him in the way that DC need us to. We€™ve already met Lois Lane and Perry White, as well as Martha Kent, so hopefully these characters will be looked into and compliment the hero, rather than filling empty screen time.
