10 Things Man Of Steel 2 Needs To Be Great
3. A More Invested Director
At this point, it's all but certain that Snyder won't be returning to the DCEU. He has made it exceedingly clear that their split over Justice League was less than amicable and that he isn't too fond of what has happened to his universe since then.
Which is a very good thing for Man of Steel 2.Plain and simple, Snyder never really liked Superman as a character. As he said after audiences reacted negatively to Man of Steel;
“I feel like [Superman fans] were taking it personally that I was trying to grow up their character.”
He found Superman comics to be too childish and not mature enough and took it upon himself to make a more mature version of the story. Seeing as this is also the man who made Watchmen and whose favorite cut of BvS received an R-rating, this isn't too much of a surprise.
But his absence gives the sequel a chance to get a director who actually cares about the material and the character. Directors such as Matthew Vaughn and Christopher McQuarrie have already openly discussed their interest in the project and their love of the source material. Which is great, because Man of Steel 2 needs a director who loves this guy. Superman has been through years of attempting to get another great cinematic incarnation and that's never going to happen with someone behind the camera who doesn't even like Superman.
Someone like McQuarrie knows how to make great action films without making them excessively dark. His films have heart and humor alongside the action, and that's exactly what Man of Steel 2 needs.
