10 Things Movies Get Wrong About Space
6. Apollo Rovers Used In The Future - Ad Astra
Ad Astra (2019) is unquestionably one of the most stunning movies set in space you're ever likely to see.
For the most part, it's also a fairly realistic representation of what space travel could be like towards the end of the 21st century. Trips to the Moon are commonplace and there's also a fully functioning base on Mars. Fingers crossed, eh?
Yet, one aspect of the space drama which seems to be a little far-fetched is the use of the Apollo Rovers in the film's chase scene on the Moon.
Admittedly, it is rather cool seeing a bunch of Lunar Rovers re-enacting a game of Mario Kart, but why would mankind still be using such a dated piece of technology that far into the future?
The rovers were built in quite a hurry during the Apollo programme in order to allow astronauts to have a bit more range to explore the Moon. So, it's highly unlikely we would still be using these old versions of the rovers to get around the Moon that far into the future.
It would be like watching a film set today where everyone drove around in cars from the 1910's. Which actually sounds quite cool come to think of it...
