10 Things Movies Need To Stop Doing IMMEDIATELY
6. Trying To Lazily Recapture Another Film's Magic
A studio spotting the success a rival is having with one particular type of feature and using that as a bit of inspiration to create their own profitable flick is only natural.
But there's taking a hugely successful formula and putting your own creative spin on it, and then there's literally trying to pretty much replicate that initial hit and learning the hard way that creating movie magic requires a little more care and attention than simply copying and pasting certain elements into your own playground.
Look no further than 2016's Suicide Squad debacle.
After initially sticking closely to the style and tone found in the likes of Zack Snyder's Man of Steel and Batman v Superman, the likes of Guardians of the Galaxy and Deadpool going down a treat with audiences, and that latter DCEU entry being slaughtered critically, led to the studio trying to beat David Ayer's film into a comedy before its eventual disappointing release.
Elsewhere, The Avengers' success paved the way for the likes of Fox, Warner Bros, and Sony all trying their best to quickly unleash their own super-group ensemble epics to varying levels of success, for example.
Fingers crossed the love sent the refreshingly animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse's direction doesn't pave the way for waves of unoriginal imitators in the years to come. But judging from the first look at the upcoming TMNT: Mutant Mayhem, another influx of copycat flicks may be just around the corner.
