10 Things You Need To Know About Guardians Of The Galaxy

2. You Can Survive In Space Without A Helmet

Even with the fantasy setting of Guardians of the Galaxy where you have a talking raccoon and giant Celestial heads, there is one scene that took some out of the movie because it seemed infeasible. The scene we are talking about is where Peter Quill jumps into the vacuum of space, takes off his mask and gives it to Gamora. How can he survive in space? Why didn€™t he explode? Why didn€™t he freeze to death? These are all valid questions because we have always been told that stepping into space without a space suit is a fast track to instant death. Remember in Red Planet (2000) when Val Kilmer opens his space helmet and freezes to death? That is what everyone thinks should have happen. Sorry what€™s that?...you don€™t remember Red Planet? Are we the only one who saw it at the cinema? Ok, another example would be something along the bulgy eyes in Total Recall when people are suffocating to death. But relax, it appears James Gunn consulted with scientists at Nasa and they reassured him that it is possible. Gun said he was told;
"The answer is yes, for a short amount of time, if he had oxygen. And, without a mask, if he released all oxygen from his lungs, for a significantly shorter amount of time."
So it is possible and Gunn is not taking liberties with science.
