10 Things You Need To Know About Joel Schumacher's Batman Triumphant

5. Warner Bros Nearly Took It In A Whole New Direction

Of course, Batman Triumphant wasn't the only iron Warner Bros had in the fire back then. Once Batman & Robin turned out to be quite such the colossal disaster it was, both critically and commercially, they decided they were going to take things in a completely different direction to Schumacher's films, both tonally and setting-wise. One of the precursors to Christopher Nolan's grittier, more €œrealistic€ take on the Batman mythos with his Dark Knight trilogy was an adaptation of Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli's iconic Year One storyline, parts of which did end up being used in Batman Begins. For a moment it even looked like Darren Aronofsky might direct it. The other side of the coin was a totally different story. Where a Year One film would've grounded the Caped Crusader more than Schumacher's more theatrical characterisation, set and costume design ever did, they were also considering turning the Batman Beyond cartoon €“ where a teen living in a Blade Runner-esque future inherits a super Bat suit from elderly Bruce Wayne €“ into a live action feature.
