10 Things You Need To Know About Mad Max: Fury Road

2. This Is Not The Max Rockatansky You Know

Charlize Theron once referred to Tom Hardy's Max Rockatansky as a completely different character who simply happened to share a name with the Mel Gibson's Max of old, but take that with a pinch of salt, as she may only have been referring to how Hardy is going about the portrayal, and not talking about a literally different person. That said, this is not the Max we know. He seems a little less confident than he did in The Road Warrior. Keep in mind, of course, that if this film is in fact set between Max Mad and its first sequel, then it's earlier along in the character's development timeline. That said, while Max has been captured before, in this, he's captured and tattoo'd with some sort of slave markings, including that he's O-Negative, has "no lumps" "two good eyes" and "heals fast" - then is finally listed as a "universal donor." The words "road warrior" as also branded on him. Throughout the trailers we have seen, he's almost completely humiliated. At some point, however, expect Max to, well, go mad, and rise up against his tormentors.
