10 Things You Need To Know About SPECTRE

1. But They've Not Appeared In A Bond Film Recently

Or the SPECTRE that appears in, well, Spectre could be a totally different beast to the one audiences are used to, the one Bond obsessives remember, the one that your memory's been jogged about throughout this whole thing. The organisation has been absent from the series for longer than it was ever part of it, abandoned swiftly in Ian Fleming's books and absent from the film series since the seventh instalment. Spectre will be the 24th Bond film, meaning there's been a whole seventeen movies since they cropped up last. SPECTRE has a storied history to draw on, and they still retain a certain cache. After all, Blofeld is still remembered as Bond's arch nemesis, despite not having appeared on screen for the better part of a forty years. How Sam Mendes and the rest of the Spectre team go about bringing them back is the question €“ by totally retooling the concept, the way they did with Casino Royale, or by hearkening back to the early days in a nostalgic manner, ala Skyfall? Going back to the well again looks like it's going to pay off either way. The rich history of Bond will be brought back to glittering light, or else 007 has an iconic new spin on an old enemy to contend with. Either way, expect to see at least a tank of Siamese fighting fish as a shout out to fans. Best case scenario: that ring and white cat sitting on the lap of Christoph Waltz.
