10 Things The Guardians Of The Galaxy Sequel Mustn't Do

10. Have New Groot Forget His Previous Life

In the final battle of Guardians of the Galaxy, Groot essentially "died" - sacrificing himself whilst protecting his new friends, by surrounding them with his highly durable branches. In an emotional moment, the hulking tree-like humanoid managed to say words he had previously been unable to say, as his final words were "we are Groot", verbally symbolising the bond the team had created with each other throughout the events of the movie. In the aftermath of the crash that Groot was protecting the team from, however, Rocket found a small piece of Groot's remains and planted it in a little pot and, sure enough - as in the comic books - the piece started to sprout into a mini-Groot, clearly emphasising that the muscle of the team would be returning. When this version of Groot is fully grown, however, we need him to have the memories of the Groot from this movie. Although it would render Rocket's heartfelt tears in the movie somewhat less meaningful than they originally were, we definitely need all the team to have that same bond they displayed as Groot appeared to perish - it was part of what made the movie so special and having one character (especially one as loveable as Groot) needing to build that bond up again would be a real shame.
