Best summed up by this great Tina Fey joke from her much more successful Golden Globes hosting gig (her first of three with Amy Poehler), James Franco's and Anne Hathaway's ceremony in 2011 is surely one of the worst in recent memory: a cringeworthy, searingly unfunny disaster in which Anne Hathaway tries her hardest and James Franco doesn't try at all, leading everyone to ask why the Academy even tried to make the pair work in the first place. An absolute abomination from the minute they both step out, the couple's lack of chemistry and/or comedic ability is evident as soon as the opening monologue, the thing by which all great Oscar hosts are chiefly judged, begins. I could go on, in sentences that would use words like humourless, woeful, embarrassing, supercilious (on Franco's part, anyway) and just plain old crap, but in this instance it really is better to just watch this absolute car-crash for yourself.
