10 Things We Learned From Kevin Smith On Joe Rogan's Podcast

7. George Carlin Didn't Want To Do Comedy

It's not a bit about Smith himself or even Rogan, but hearing the former talk about comedy legend George Carlin, who appeared in Dogma, of course, is a great exchange in the podcast.

Smith talks about learning that Carlin wrote and obsessively learned all of his bits months in advance so that they were second nature while they were making Dogma. He also reveals that Carlin fancied himself a writer first and never wanted to be in comedy - he says he "wanted to be Dany Kaye" and act.

He just happened to be great at it and it wasn't a calling: he worked 275 stages a year because he owed a lot of money - partly because he bought a jet (in which he'd sit and do coke).
