The opening credit sequence used to be a requirement in comic book movies for as long as anyone can remember. Richard Donner's Superman being a perfect example of how a combination of musical score and eye-catching graphics could perfectly set the tone for the story about to unfold.

In the early years of the new millennium, Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy established the gold standard for main title sequences. In Spider-Man 2's memorable opening, for example, Danny Elfman's stirring score combined with Alex Ross' evocative artwork to recap the previous film's events and create a sense of anticipation for the further adventures of Peter Parker.

Similarly, the X-Men films began with a voiceover narration by Patrick Stewart's Charles Xavier that posed a compelling dramatic question before transitioning to a visually stimulating tour of Cerebro as the credits were displayed.
