The late Stan Lee had been making cameos in adaptations of his work since before the comic book movie boom of the last two decades. However, the majority of the movie going public was only marginally familiar with him at the time.

After a brief appearance as a hot dog vendor in X-Men, Stan Lee began popping up in every Marvel film made by multiple studios.

Before long, it became a welcome running gag and a requirement to have the affable legend show up like a modern day Alfred Hitchcock.

The novelty of those early appearances remains a treasured memory for many fans of the genre.
