What word do you have to say three times to summon a perverted bio-exorcist to get rid of living people infesting your house? The answer is Beetlejuice, the ever popular 1988 cult classic film by Tim Burton. This kooky film stars some of Burton’s most iconic actors and actresses, as well as some pretty stand out performances that have lived on in our memories for years and years.

Starring Michael Keaton in the title role, Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin as a dead married couple, and Winona Ryder as a young girl obsessed with death after her mother passes away, this strange film creates an incredible cast of characters. As you can imagine, the conflict of the film

Beetlejuice has been popular since its initial release, grossing US $73.7 million on a $15 million budget. It was a critical and commercial success, becoming one of Tim Burton’s most popular films to date.

A strange and fantastical idea like this is sure to have some interesting things happening on set, as well as behind the scenes, while creating the film itself. As one of Burton’s most popular films, and one of my personal favorites, there are so many interesting facts to note about its production.

10. Catherine O’Hara Met Her Future Husband On Set

Catherine O’Hara plays the role of Lydia’s posh step mother, Delia Deetz, who is obsessed with making the house a creative sanctuary for the modern art she creates. It is quite an iconic role from her, with her leading the dinner scene in the film, which has stuck in many viewers minds as one of the best parts of the film.

Bo Welch was a production designer for Tim Burton on a couple of his films, including Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice, and Batman Returns. Towards the end of filming, Burton told Welch to just ask out O’Hara.

According to Welch, “It didn’t even occur to me that I was even supposed to talk to the actors. But since Tim told me to I did and then we dated and we’re married and here we are today.”
