4. Michelle Pfeiffer Was Suffocating And Deaf In That Costume
The Catwoman costume made a sex symbol out of Michelle Pfeiffer, but actually wearing the thing was a nightmare for the actress. To get that incredibly tight-fitting look, she was literally vacuum-sealed into the latex costume meaning that she was very short of oxygen while shooting. Therefore, Pfeiffers takes had to be quick. On top of this, the mask segment of the costume was so tight around her head that it almost completely blocked sound to Pfeiffers ears. She couldnt hear herself speak, to such a degree that she was unknowingly shouting her dialogue and Tim Burton had to tell her quieten down the line delivery. Each version of the costume set Warner Bros. back $1000, and 60 different versions were used over the course of the six-month shoot. Years later, Pfeiffer was asked in an interview if shed ever worn the costume around the house to entertain her husband. She replied by saying that, once filming was finished, she never wanted to see the costume again in her life. Danny DeVito wasnt comfortable in his costume either, but hes not widely considered a sex symbol so thats not quite as interesting. Michael Keatons Batsuit was an improvement on his previous one, though, as the designers had added a zipper on his request.
