10 Things You Didn’t Know About Batman Returns

2. The Joker And Two-Face Were Once In The Script

When Batman Returns was first being written, it was envisioned as a direct follow-up to Batman. As such, Kim Basinger€™s Vicki Vale would have continued on as Bruce€™s love interest and the two would have gotten engaged at the end of the movie. Souvenir stands would have also been seen to be selling smashed-up fragments of the first movie€™s Batwing, too. The original draft of Batman Returns also featured further exploration into Jack Napier €“ AKA Jack Nicholson€™s Joker €“ and his past. Given that Joker died at the end of Batman, one can assume that these scenes would have taken place in the past. Perhaps fans would have found what Napier did between killing Bruce Wayne€™s parents and reappearing as a member of Carl Grissom€™s crime syndicate. Additionally, Billy Dee Williams€™ Harvey Dent featured in the original Batman Returns script. At the end of the movie he would have been electrocuted in the face by Catwoman, starting his transformation into the villainous Two-Face in the third movie. Ultimately, Max Shreck replaced Harvey in the script, and Williams never did return to the role. It€™s believed that Keaton and Burton both weren€™t keen on the idea of directly picking up where Batman left off, which is probably why these scenes ended up being rewritten and/or cut completely.
