10 Things You Didn't Know About Chucky
8. Crossovers Have Been Proposed
A few Easter eggs in a police evidence locker is as close as Chucky has come to crossing over with other horror icons in the movies, but ideas for versus films have been bandied about over the years.
Child's Play writer Don Mancini tabled the concept of the killer doll finding his way to Elm Street and meeting Freddy Krueger, and it sounds like a nightmare come true.
Mancini envisaged a movie called Child's Play on Elm Street in which the slasher duo team up before locking horns in a lethal game of one-upmanship.
CinemaBlend quotes him as saying...
"I've talked about this a lot over the years and it's actually an idea that I think is cool and doable. It's just... it would require arranging all the legal red tape between two different studios. But I think Chucky versus Freddy would be awesome. Because they both have distinct personalities, and they both talk, they would be a really fun double act.
"My idea for the movie is to do it as a horror movie version of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. It's called Child's Play on Elm Street. Chucky ends up in the bedroom of a house on Elm Street. And Freddy meets him there. And they're, like, fans of each other. So they have this rapport. But then they realise Elm Street isn't big enough for the two of them. It only can contain one killer."
Legal red tape between studios is often an insurmountable barrier, but Mancini has also expressed interest in seeing Chucky team up with Annabelle, and that could be more feasible since Annabelle helmer John Leonetti served as the director of photography for 1991’s Child’s Play 3.
