10 Things You Didn't Know About Inception

9. Hans Zimmer Didn't Create That "BRAAAAAMMMMM" Sound Effect

Hans Zimmer has amassed a huge and sprawling legacy as the composer behind movies such as The Lion King, Rain Man, Gladiator, Pirates of the Caribbean and even an entry in the Call of Duty video game series.

But he's best known, perhaps, for being the guy who created the iconic "BRAAAAAMMMMM" sound effect that has come to define Inception. You know, that incredibly loud and brassy horn noise that lent an epic weight to Nolan's movie -especially during the marketing stages where it was used in the trailers.

Great stuff, Hans. Except... you didn't create it, did you, Hans?

Contrary to popular belief, the iconic blast of musical genius doesn't exist because of Hans Zimmer (as he has claimed), but because of two other composers named Mike Zarin and Zach Hemsey. Zarin was hired to work on the music for the first Inception trailer, you see, where he came up with the initial version of that sound we all know and, uh, love? From there, it evolved when Zach Hemsey created the definitive "BRAAAAAMMMMM" in a track called "Mind Heist," used in the second trailer.

It's in this piece of music, which had nothing to do with Zimmer, that "BRAAAAAMMMMM" evolved into its final recognisable form.
