10 Things You Didn't Know About Jason Voorhees

2. The First Jason Has A Band Called First Jason

Ari Lehman found fame playing Jason in Part I, so when he decided to move into horrorpunk, he was perfectly entitled to call his band First Jason. If you didn’t know that Lehman created the band specifically for horror fans, then the titles of his songs – which include Victim, You Better Run and Machete Is My Friend – ought to tip you off.

Loaded with references to horror movies and the seamier side of life (“Child beater better run run run away/ First Jason gonna make you pay” Lehman sings on You Better Run), First Jason would make a terrific opening act for Alice Cooper, who in 1986 released He’s Back (The Man Behind The Mask) to “signal Jason’s big return” in Friday The 13th Part VI: Jason Lives.

Other musicians who’ve made reference to Jason include Eminem (“And if it’s not as a rapper that I’ll make it as/ I’ll be a f**kin’ rapist in a Jason mask” he sings on Criminal), whose tracks Amityville and Off The Wall also sample Harry Manfredini’s score. You can also find references to the big guy in tracks by fellow rappers Dr Dre, LL Cool J, Tupac Shakur and Insane Clown Posse.
