10 Things You Didn't Know About Jaws

8. Spielberg Hated the Musical Score

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gw00IqWZCAU Spielberg originally thought the now iconic musical score was a joke by composer John Williams. Spielberg later admitted that the score is at least half responsible for the success of the movie. Millions of moviegoers would probably agree.

9. Quint Wrote Part of the Screenplay

Quint's relating of the tale of the USS Indianapolis is one of the most powerful scenes in Jaws. The funny thing is, it was actually written by Robert Shaw. The scene was a point of consternation between the screenwriters (including Benchley). Shaw took a stab at it, and the writers liked it so much it became part of the script. The only problem? Shaw got the date of the sinking of the USS Indianapolis wrong. Quint says it sank on June 29, 1945. The Indianapolis actually sank on July 30, 1945. The rest of the monologue is correct, though.
